The issue generally occurs because of the file system related errors. It can be due to Catalog B tree is damaged. Or as you are saying that partition table, which keeps record of all the Mac OS X hard drive volumes, is damaged. In order to solve out the issue you need to format the Mac hard drive and restore your lost data from valid backup available. If no nay valid backup is available then you need to go for third party Mac hard drive recovery software program. These software programs are powerful enough to thoroughly scan entire hard drive and extract all lost data from it. It is completely safe and it has graphical user interface which makes it easy to understand. It not requires any technical knowledge. So just try out this software program after formatting your Mac system. Good luck!
