Cause behind this error is that you are trying to install service pack 3 on a system in which “Microsoft shared computer toolkit for XP” is installed. If you want to proceed with the installation you will either have to uninstall Microsoft shared computer toolkit and for that you will have to follow the given steps –
• From Start go to control panel
• Select add or remove program
• Select ‘Microsoft shared computer toolkit’ and then click remove
• Soon after it is removed, you can try installing windows XP SP3. However, perfect uninstaller can also be used for the purpose of un-installation, and is recommended for complete removal; otherwise it may create troubles in further installation of windows XP SP3.
If you don’t want to go through the above described process, installation of windows steady state, which is the latest version of toolkit, is to be done.
