I am not able to log on to recovery console as it says ‘password is not valid’?

For logging in to the recovery console in my Windows XP system I used the user name and password of the administrator account, but console is consistently generating error invalid password, please retype the password etc even after specifying the correct one and I have made several attempts but my entire attempt failed. Can any body tell me the cause of this error and how to solve it?

Most probable reason behind ‘invalid password error’ is that you have installed windows XP from sysprep image or sysprep 2.0 was executed on the system. Actually what happens is that sysrep.exe interferes with the manner in which password keys are stored in the registry making it incompatible with recovery console logon routine. If you are not able to log on to Windows XP, collect the necessary files for creating setup disk and use it for floppy boot installation. After that start your system using setup disk, with this windows password recovery is achievable such that you are able to log in to the recovery console.
